“Hache Ese Bé Cé”
Anyone visiting Mexico since 29 January will not fail to notice the ubiquitous bright red & white hexagonal logo of British banking giant HSBC, which bought the country’s largest retail banking group, Grupo Financiero Bital.
Today’s Financial Times (London) features an interesting article contrasting Bital’s “big bang” name change to HSBC with the strategy of other foreign banks, which have preferred to preserve the identity of the banks they took over.
As the new branch signs were uncovered throughout the country, literally overnight, HSBC Mexico bigwigs hosted a bash for 10,000 Bital employees. This was followed by a live concert by one of Mexico’s most famous pop stars, Luis Miguel.
